Bengaluru woman electrocuted after coming in contact with a snapped conductor

A 55-year-old woman, Manjamma, died of electrocution on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Manjamma was electrocuted to death after a power cable snapped and fell on her. The accident occurred as Manjamma and two others were standing on the roadside when a loose 11KV power cable came crashing down, leading to her untimely death.
Eyewitnesses reported that the power cable suddenly fell upon the victim. Local residents rushed to assist, but unfortunately, it was too late for Manjamma.
A video of the incident shows the other two women narrowly escaping, saved by mere inches as the cable descended. The incident has sparked outrage among residents against Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) as such incidents have occurred in the past too.

Last November, a similar tragedy occurred when a loose power cable caused the deaths of a mother and her young daughter in Bengaluru. 23-year-old Soundarya and her nine-month-old daughter Leela came into contact with a live 11 KV wire that had fallen on the footpath at Hope Farm Signal and got electrocuted early in the morning.
Following that incident, BESCOM promised to conduct a thorough review of its infrastructure and implement additional safety measures to prevent such accidents from happening again. Bescom had suspended five of its officials for negligence and issued show-cause notices to two senior officers after a mother and daughter died due to electrocution in Bengaluru.
